S.T.S. Inch Dumbbell Kit
A stone-loaded training handle designed for training for The Thomas Inch Dumbbell. Complete with the mold to make your Atlas Stone attachments.
The Steel-To-Stone (S.T.S) Dumbbell Handle Kit includes the handle, anchors, and a Slater Strength Atlas Stone Mold, so you can cast your own stone-loaded Thomas Inch Dumbbell trainer.
The handle is made with the same 2.375" diameter as our Thomas Inch Dumbbell Replica and comes with a set of anchors that are cast into a pair of Atlas Stones, allowing the stones to be securely bolted to the handle.
Once the stones are attached, their round shape creates a unique challenge. Unlike plates on a traditional loadable dumbbell, the stones do not spin on the handle. The spherical shape also creates a larger and more grip-testing load in the hand, providing another way to train for the feel and difficulty of lifting the Thomas Inch Dumbbell.
Choose your mold size:
- 10" makes a finished dumbbell of approximately 78-90 lbs
- 12" makes a finished dumbbell of approximately 110-130 lbs
- 14" makes a finished dumbbell of approximately 195-225 lbs

Approximate Finished Weights
10" Stones: 78-90 lbs
12" Stones: 110-130 lbs

How It Works
Your handle arrives fully assembled, with an anchor attached to each end.
- Fill your Atlas Stone mold with concrete.
- Set the handle on top of the mold so the anchor on one end sits in the concrete. Leave the handle in place while the concrete sets.
- Once the stone has cured, unbolt the handle from the stone using the included tools. The anchor stays in the stone.
- Remove the stone from the mold.
- Fill the mold again and set the other end of the handle on top, with the second anchor in the concrete.
- Once the second stone has cured, remove it from the mold and bolt your first stone back onto the open end of the handle.
- To make your second pair of stones, bolt the extra anchors onto the handle and repeat these steps.
Stone Construction
For the best durability, we recommend using a high-strength concrete or mortar mix. Recommended options include:
- Sakrete 5000 Plus High Early Strength Concrete Mix
- Sakrete MAXIMIZER® Concrete Mix (if you prefer a lighter-weight mix)
- Quikrete 5000
- Menards Max Strength Concrete Mix (Item #1891020)
- GST's Elephant Armor Ultra High Performance Mortar
We also recommend adding Slater Strength Concrete Strengthening Fibers to the mix to help increase the durability and longevity of the finished stones.
With a single mold, you can still vary the weight of each pair by using a lighter or heavier concrete mix, or adding steel shot.
Slater Lightening Inserts are not recommended for this application.
Safety Information
The Steel To Stone Dumbbell Handle is not intended for overhead lifting. It is designed specifically as a deadlift grip challenge.
Drop the stone-loaded handle onto several layers of thick rubber flooring or rubber pads. Do not drop it directly onto concrete or other hard surfaces.
Concrete stones can crack or become damaged from repeated drops and impacts. Inspect the stones and anchors regularly to ensure they are tight, and discontinue use if you see cracking, damage, or other signs of failure.
